Come for the eggs, stay for the croissants at President Plaza

Egg sandwiches and unique French baked goods make President Plaza a worthwhile stop

Feeling like a stranger after only travelling 30 minutes on SkyTrains is a unique experience.

There’s something special when you get out at Aberdeen, a feeling mimicking getting off a plane in a new city. Language plays a big part, with many signs in Chinese.

But for me, it’s the food scene. I have a strong grasp on Vancouver’s restaurants. But Richmond is something a bit more unknowable, a combination of Chinese dishes I’ve never tried, a language barrier and places hidden from Google Maps.

President Plaza, located at 8181 Cambie Rd., one block from Aberdeen Station, falls into my current obsession with exploring lesser publicized Chinese food courts. It’s nowhere near as forgotten as Pacific Plaza — only three blocks away mind you — but it doesn’t rank as high in popularity as Crystal Mall or Aberdeen.
