The Vancity Lookout was founded in 2022 as an answer to how we can fix local news in the city.

For too long, Canada’s largest media corporations have hollowed out local newsrooms and embraced high volume-clickbait stories. They’ve chased profit and margins instead of stories.

Our mission is simple — revitalize and invest in local, neighbourhood news across this city. We cover the issues shape Vancouver, through long-form, in-depth stories you can’t find anywhere else. 

We can do all this because we’re mostly reader-funded and aren’t reliant on old, broken media models.
